Sunday Shopping at SM

09.18.2011 by Leah //

I always look forward to the month of September not only because it is the  start of the countdown to Christmas, but because different establishments hold their last big sale for the year in this month.

We were actually looking forward to checking out 3 sale events this week:   S&R’s Members’ Treat, the Book Fair at SMX and the Warehouse Sale of SM Homeworld at Megatrade Hall (in Megamall).    We decided to skip the Book Fair this year because we still have tons of books to finish anyway.    And since we only have today as our free day, we planned on checking out SM Homeworld’s Warehouse Sale first and then go to S&R next.

Megamall was already packed at 11 a.m. and people were really checking out  the warehouse sale:

The bestsellers were the storage boxes, water jugs, items from Multiple Choice, mirrors and reproduction prints of paintings in frame and canvass.   Some items were discounted for as much as 70%, and we were not spared from the “impulsive shopping” that goes with this kind of sale hehe.

We bought only a “few” items like placemats, a grill pan, gift items and a reproduction print in canvass with a price tag of P3,500 but which we got for only P850.00.

Here’s AJ carrying our shopping bags and the canvass print wrapped in manila paper:

AJ’s tired but happy feet at Mexicali:

The canvass print we bought shows an outdoor cafe with customers having dinner or late-night coffee.   There’s no particular reason why we bought this, except maybe to add some color to the pale yellow color of our living room.

I think I can pin the place as somewhere in Europe (Vienna, maybe?), given the cobbled street and the lady with a white cap standing in the middle of the street.

Here’s a closer look at the painting: (btw, can anyone here identify the painter for me?  I forgot to ask the salesperson about this.)

And oh, I made a side trip to Marks and Spencer and finally bought the black pointed toe mid-heel patent leather court shoes that I’ve been eyeing for a while.   I used the “earnings” I saved up from the second-hand items I sold at eBay over the past weeks.   Happy!

We  decided not to go to S&R anymore because it was past 7 in the evening when we finished our other errands at SM.   We also do not want to be tempted into buying more sale items hehe!

What a busy weekend!   It was really bitin!   But if there’s one thing that makes me look forward to an equally busy week ahead, it’s my new shoes.   Can’t wait to wear them!

Update:

Thanks to sis Aleng, she was able to identify the painter behind the reproduction print we bought.  It’s a Vincent Van Gogh work, apparently so I googled it up and learned that the painting is called Café Terrace at Night.    In fact, the Cafe Terrace is very much alive and can be found in Arles, France.

Here’s Cafe Terrace (now called Cafe van Gogh) today:   (source: Wikipedia)

Interesting!

sis Leah, the painting is a Van Gogh. It’s called Starry Night over the Rhône. 🙂 I personally love that painting of Van Gogh among his works.
