This little diner is located at The Columns in Ayala Avenue. The first thing you will notice from the outside is this poster of a big burger, which was very effective in making us feel suddenly hungry.
The diner has a loft which serves as the eating area, and the chairs are dressed up in red-and-white leather for that diner’s look. I am totally digging this look – very 60’s!
The Red Engine Diner offers a mix of appetizers, salads, rice plates, burgers, chicken baskets, steak and ribs and combo meals that are made up of a bit of everything in the menu. Price ranges from P200 to P500 for each meal.
I chose to try their biggest combo meal, priced at only P249.00 and is already made up of the following: Classic Fried Chicken, Red Spaghetti, Salad, Garlic Bread and Iced Tea.
Not bad for its price, but the spaghetti was too sweet for my taste. The fried chicken and salad were good, tough.
AJ went for a rice plate and ordered Pork Belly with BBQ sauce (also priced at P249.00). It has a sweet, smoky taste and is coated with a generous amount of barbeque sauce which, sad to say, tasted very ordinary.
Overall, there’s nothing extraordinarily appealing in the food we ordered at Red Engine Diner. The food servings are generous, and I think that’s what we mainly paid for (in short, nakakabusog sa dami but parang hindi rin because you cannot find its distinct taste).
