I’ve just finished this book and I totally love it – the story, the writing style of David Nicholls, the characters. Just everything about this book is brilliant!
Now, I am not really a fan of books-turned-into-a-movie (except for the Harry Potter books) but when I learned that Anne Hathaway got the role of Emma Morley, I know I just have to watch the book’s film version. I am both excited and curious to see how she nailed that British accent. I am not familiar with Jim Sturgess, who played Dexter Mayhew, but I could see that he and Anne had a good chemistry on-screen.
Here are some of the movie scenes I’m dying to see (the movie’s still pictures are already available online, but I still don’t know when’s the playdate here in Manila – and waah I think I’ve been out of the loop for some time, the movie was shown already last August and I didn’t know!):
Dex and Em’s first kiss (after they have spent the night together as strangers). So nakakakilig!
Emma in a very striking blue Chinese dress during the wedding of her former roommate. She was reunited with Dexter here, after being estranged from him for some time. It was at this scene where Emma will finally reveal to Dexter her feelings, only to find out that he’s already engaged to his girlfriend and will be married soon.
Em and Dex during their Paris stay (lots of flirting here because Dex is single again – his wife left him):
If you haven’t read the book yet, go get a copy (!). This wonderful novel won’t be attracting only positive reviews if it’s not that good.
I honestly thought I won’t like it because I’m not the romantic type hehe! But reading it, it’s not just about the on-off love story of Dex and Em – but rather their “story” – as friends, lovers and individuals. The story’s flow was also not difficult to follow even if we are switching from Dex’s story to Em’s story to their story together. Reading it is already like watching a full-length film – it’s like Nicholls took care of the cinematography in his book. And why wouldn’t he? He writes for TV and feature films.
I just love, love this book. And you would, too =)
