I can’t remember when was it that I first looked for ruby earrings for my collection. Red rubies and green emeralds are the most difficult to find among all precious stones because their supply is really low. The rarest and most valuable colors (vivid pigeon blood red for ruby and medium-to-dark green tone for emeralds) are so expensive there’s no way I can afford them.
Then I learned about the Burmese rubies after reading Victoria Finlay’s Jewels: A Secret History and since have secretly wished for my jewelers to bring me fine Burmese rubies one day.
Burmese rubies are said to be the best rubies in the world and also the most sought after. Their color ranges from the most coveted (and most valuable) pigeon blood red, red, pinkish red, orange-y red and purplish red.
It’s best to buy the Burmese rubies among all the others because ruby gems are being mined in Burma (also called Myanmar) for close to 500 years already so we can be assured of its quality and authenticity.
My secret wish to have Burmese rubies in my collection finally came true when my jeweler brought me these Burmese rubies (in red-pinkish color) set in earrings and ring with 14k yellow gold and adorned with diamond baguettes:
There are practically no rubies without inclusions and those with minimal ones are valued the most. Nonetheless, I preferred mine to have little bits of them (but not obvious to the eyes) to make sure that they are natural rubies.
Each stone measures almost 10mm in width, making it the biggest precious stones in my collection now (excluding pearls). The diamond baguettes are perfect and clean too, without any carbon inclusions.
I am so happy (and satisfied finally!) with my Burmese rubies. Soon you will see action pictures of these lovely gems, and I hope to capture its true colors (sometimes it gives off a purplish hue) using natural lights =)
