Way before Meralco decided to increase their electricity rates, we have started investing in LED bulbs to replace our already energy saving light fixtures that still consumes around 12 to 15 watts for each bulb. The LED bulbs are more energy- and cost-efficient, consuming only half of what energy saving lamps already use up.
Akari’s NXLED series were our favorite, and luckily for us, they were on sale at Ace Hardware on the day that we decided to finally switch to LED lights. Although still expensive compared to regular energy-saving and incandescent bulbs, we know that over the long term, the longer operational life and higher efficiency of LED lights will translate into bigger savings in the replacement cost of bulbs and in our electricity bills, of course.
We got their 7-watt bulbs to replace our 15-watt energy-saving bulbs and surprisingly, the LED bulbs emitted higher lumen (more brightness) than their counterpart.
The design of the bulb allows for longer projection output, and the one we have placed at our dining area can already light up part of our living room and the short hallway leading into the kitchen with almost the same amount of visible light, unlike other bulbs which only dimly lights up the adjoining areas.
Aside from the dining area (where I usually do my web surfing, blogging activities and take-home work), we have replaced the bulbs at our patio and dirty kitchen. These are the 3 busiest spots in our apartment that consume more light.
I got our electricity bill this morning and viola, even after factoring in the P0.54 per kilowatt-hour increase, our bill still came out P80.00 lower than last month’s. Whee!
