Getting rid of ants…

04.02.2012 by Leah //

When we few things we have to deal with when we moved into our apartment last year were the cockroaches and ants – black and red.    I tried to get rid of them using chalk roach and ant killers and citronella oil in burners which I light every week and place in our kitchen area.

Now, we seldom have cockroaches at home (very, very seldom in fact) and I think it really helps to keep your kitchen really clean and well-lit so as not to attract them.

But the ants simply just don’t go away.   We have gotten rid of the big red ones and now, every time it rains (yes, it’s summer and yet it rains here), a group of black ants will start trekking from our open kitchen (covered only chicken wires) going to the bathroom window (which is just right next to the kitchen).    They won’t get distracted by the chalk or citronella spray anymore, which irked me so much because I don’t want them to be finding their way into our room or dining area.

Thankfully, I discovered this insect repellant solution from Stanhome World.   I bought one last year from an officemate who’s a direct seller of Stanhome World products.

Stanhome World is a European brand that sells various products through direct selling.  Yes, you will not find them at the malls.  They sell mostly cosmetic products, but they have a line of home care products that I find irresistible too.

The insect repellant is one of their more popular products and it’s because it’s really effective.   You can apply the solution directly at the path used by ants or cockroaches (I do this by spraying the solution into the surface) or you can dilute a part of the solution with water then use that when you clean the floor.  I prefer using it in its concentrated form as I think it’s more effective that way.

Now I can get rid of ants too just by spraying Stanhome World’s insect repellant solution, without the chemical smell of an insect spray.   The solution smells of citronella leaves a refreshing scent into our kitchen too.

The first bottle I bought cost me only P150.00.    Now, its retail price has gone up to P259.00.   I wish I stocked on them already (I didn’t know that the price then was just an introductory price).    Anyway, this solution has become a “must” in our cleaning items, and I think I’ll still buy it even with another price increase (but I will definitely scrimp on its usage hehe!).

I want to try this.. we have lots of ants lately here at home.. I don’t know why.. Where can I buy this (you mentioned that they are selling retail now)? My mom would like to try this too if it is really effective. They have LOTS of ants at their place (due to the abundance of trees in the area maybe?). As for the roaches, we almost always do not have them living with us.. but well.. you know some neighbors tend to be unhygienic so their roaches visit us sometimes.. haha..
