Birthdays and Estrel’s Cakes

03.12.2012 by Leah //

Today is my dad’s birthday (Happy Birthday Daddy!).  He turned 65 but we opted not to hold a big party for him (as others are wont to do, since it’s a milestone age).  We know that his only wish was to spend his birthday with Liam, his only apo (only grandchild) so last Saturday, my brother and his family flew from Cebu to surprise him.  AJ and I picked them up at the airport, while my mom kept my dad busy at home to make sure that he won’t leave the house.

The meeting between the lolo (grandpa) and the apo was a Kodak-worthy moment but too bad nobody was able to document it.  You see, we figured in a minor accident on our way home from the airport.  Thank God, nobody got hurt but the left side doors of AJ’s car got big dents (huhu!).  Thankfully again, the driver of the car which bumped into us was good and has agreed to shoulder all the repair costs.  Liam seemed unfazed by the whole event and did not complain on our emergency taxi ride home.   He was all smiles when he saw my dad, and that more than compensated for all the hassles that we went through.

That aside, the celebration and festivities went on.   We were at Tagaytay today as planned to relax, chill and enjoy the good food at Bags of Beans.

And as birthdays in the family would not be complete with a cake from Estrel’s,  AJ and I bought this yesterday:

My dad loves being a lolo more than ever and Liam is very lucky to have a dotingloloin him.    My dad goes to Cebu almost every month to see Liam – that’s how devoted he is hehe!

Back to Estrel’s, it was my first time to see their Quezon City store which is really nice and homey.  The only drawback is that there weren’t anymore stocks of the sliced version of their famous caramel cake that I would like to take home too hehe!    Here are some pictures I took of the store – inside and out:

Estrel’s caramel cake is so loved by our family that we even hand-carried one to Cebu for my brother’s birthday some 3 years ago.   Although Liam wasn’t able to have this famous caramel cake for his 1st birthday (because his mom wanted a themed-cake for his birthday then),  he will definitely have one for his 2nd birthday this year.

Estrel’s Caramel Cakes is located at No. 54 Scout Tobias cor. Scout Limbaga Streets, Brgy. Laging Handa, Quezon City.  For advance orders, you may call  372-2965 or 371-7938.   The shop is open Mondays to Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Sundays at 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
