Late Post: Mandaue Foam’s Decore Galore

Note:  I’m supposed to post this the other day but forgot all about it!

I always look forward to the sale events of Mandaue Foam because the discounts are really huge.   It was through one of their sale events that AJ and I were able to buy our sofa, accent chairs and dining set for our apartment.

Since I was in Cebu last week and my brother Dino and sis-in-law Juvvy,  both based in Cebu, are  in the thick of moving into their new home, they asked me to accompany them to  Mandaue Foam (Banilad Branch) to check out the sale and help them with furniture-shopping.

Oh boy, I was so happy to be here!

The first thing we saw was this cute ottoman chair that’s on sale from P6,000 to P2,000!   I asked Dino and Juvvy to snap it up before it’s sold!   The fabric print is so cool to the eyes and is perfect for their all-white home.  The round wooden plate is where you can place magazines, telephone or books.   It can also be used as additional seat  – just put a seat cover on it!

P1070518b

I like these Louis Chairs in dark wood + suede fabric materials.   They’re not on sale (P3,900.00 each) but they’re still way affordable for a French-style furniture!

P1070525b

Lovely study/computer table in deep dark wood color that’s perfect for any work-at-home mom or dad or simply as a work desk/library at home.    The price tag?  Only P12,000!

P1070527b

Animal chairs at P500.00 each.

P1070529b

I fell in love with this white glass-tempered dining table with  French-style dining chairs.  Simply  gorgeous!   And what’s more, it’s on sale at 30% (discounted to P29,400).

P1070532b

Dino preferred this white tempered glass table with black leather dining chairs.   Also discounted at 30% with net price tag of P15,400.00.   There are just a few cracks on the table but they’re all concealable.

P1070536b

Dining table with a glass top and modern wood base.   This design is to be phased out already so it’s on sale at P7,000!

P1070539b

Another modern wooden table on big sale – only P9,800 for this one which boasts of thick wood as its table top.

P1070543b

Juvvy liked this shabby chic dining set on sale at P11,400.00.

P1070545b

The couple weren’t able to pick the perfect dining set for their new home yet because the space for their dining area requires a round table instead of a rectangular one.    But we had fun looking at all those on sale!

Moving on to the other sections of the showroom, I found these:

Shabby chic atelier dresser (regularly priced at P13,000).

P1070548b

Lights chandelier with lamp covers.   I wish our apartment had a high ceiling!   I really want this!   And why not – the price tag is only P6,200!    Super affordable!

P1070551b

If you’re looking for some dramatic lights for your favorite corner at home, you may want this lamp with dropped crystals in descending shapes (small to big).   It gives an illusion of a high ceiling, too.     The price?  Only P8,000!

Too bad the Decore Galore sale ended yesterday.   If you are interested in some of the items above, I encourage you to call Mandaue Foam (Banilad, Cebu Branch) at (032) 232 2982  to see if the items are still available and maybe they can work out a way for you to still get discounts.   Their staff are very friendly and accommodating.

Check out the official website of Mandaue Foam for more of their products, and their official Facebook page for the latest sale events, branch openings and new furniture designs.

Our Union Jack Storage Chest

Hello folks!   How are you liking my new blog design?   I’m so excited to tell you all about it – the design process (thanks to my angel, Patricia of Fancy Girl Designs), the joy (and stress!) of moving to a self-hosted blog (with tips to WordPress users) and my plans for The Bright Spot.

In the meantime, please indulge me while I show off our fabulous find at Greenhills 2 weeks ago – a storage chest with vintage Union Jack design!

P1060947b

We found it at the 2nd floor of Shoppesville, Greenhills.  There is this little  store that sells authentic Ikea items and more of these storage boxes shaped as luggage bags.    They also sell these CD racks shaped as a telephone booth, Coca Cola vintage vending machine and gas pump.  Cool, aren’t they?

I really had no plans of buying anything that day since the purpose of our trip there was to meet up with the coolest couple we know, Frances of Topaz Horizon / Topaz Mommy and Vince (of the Third World Nerd), who are good friends of AJ’s.   But one look at the chest in the bottom and I knew right then that we will not be going home without it haha!

And this being Greenhills, I haggled for a discount.   I have immediately set a mental budget for this and it’s a good thing  AJ and I stuck on that while haggling because the last price we got (which sealed the deal) was not too far from the budget we have set  =)

So happy to find our purchase generously covered with bubble wrap!    We picked it up after having coffee and donuts at Krispy Kreme.

Our Union Jack storage chest replaced the makeshift side table that I made by stacking together 2 big storage boxes and covering them with table cloth (check out old picture below to have a better idea):

We now have a more appropriate side table that’s space-saving and functional, and a Union Jack-themed design that will never go out-of-date.

On top of this side table/storage box are the following:  acrylic table lamp (around P800.00) from the Landmark, books (including this vintage Life encyclopedia featuring Britain), coffee press and butter cookies (which I just put there because the tin can has pictures of the soldier guards at Buckingham Palace hehe).

This furniture piece really rocks!

I am now finally done with decorating our living room,  and am ready to move on to our dining area.     If you will notice, I haven’t been featuring it a lot here but with this next simple home project that I chanced upon online – am sure that even you will take a second look at your dining area!   Watch out for it!

Book Trees

Do you love books?  How do you organize them at home?

AJ and I each have a vast collection of books that we brought into our apartment.   Here are just some of mine (sorry for the bad photo, I took this using my fone):

Since we have a modest-sized apartment for me, we decided to store most of the books for now, but left some for display.    We wanted our start-up home to reflect our personalities – our love for books, to be exact.    Here are some that you will find:

Books under our console table.   I’m thinking of changing the last 2 with books in red cover so they’ll look consistent and more organized.

The books at our side table have blue and orange color schemes.

There are still a number of really nice books that we want to display but there simply isn’t enough space.

Then I saw these book tree shelves that not only looks pretty but interestingly functional as well.   Who can’t love these trees that grow books?

Tree Bookshelf from designer Shawn Soh (www.swiss-miss.com)

Book Tree by Kostas Design (from A Pretty Book)

Sebastian Errazuriz’s “Metamorphosis” bookshelf that is hauntingly beautiful (www.designbook.com)

Branch Book Shelf by Pared Olivier (www.2dots-era.com)

Wisdom Tree (www.diary.ru)

My favorite is the one designed by Shawn Soh – it’s minimalist and cute at the same time.  I like the way the branches are carved to hold the books and the grass green color – a color of balance – would be perfect for our beige and predominantly brown living room.

Window Shopping at IKEA

Our wall clock finally broke down today.   It was giving us a time that is 2 hours late.   It was an old clock which AJ brought in from his parent’s home because it was just being kept there, unused.   We were happy then because we don’t have to buy one, but now we’re excited to buy one hehe.  Time is gold, you know, so you can’t afford to be running 2 hours late in everything you do.

I thought of checking eBay first because there may be branded wall clocks being sold at big discounts.  But guess what I saw?  An eBay store selling IKEA items!   Happy!   The seller is based in Davao and according to him/her:  “WE ARE A BRICK AND MORTAR IKEA RESELLER STORE (WE IMPORT AND RESELL IKEA PRODUCTS LOCALLY).  ALL ITEMS ARE AUTHENTIC IKEA PRODUCTS.

I found some items that I like, and thankfully I’m not an impulsive buyer for I might end up bidding for all of them.

Just check these out…

LACK side table, birch effect – priced at P750.00:

KRISTALLER Chandelier, 3-armed – just for P3,500:

IKEA Tajma Wall Clock in Red - P988.00 (a bit expensive for a clock?):

LAGRA Work Lamp – P300.00 (now this is cheap):

GRUNKA 4-piece kitchen utensil set, stainless steel – P450.00:

There are other nice items at this eBay IKEA store that are tempting to have, but I have to remind myself that I’m supposed to be looking for a wall clock – not living room decorations and kitchen items hehe.

I ended up not bidding for the clock.    But have put the chandelier in my “watch” list hehe!

Goal this weekend:  look a nice-looking but durable wall clock  =)

The Ghost Chair at Mandaue Foam

An acrylic Ghost Chair is one of the many beautiful furniture that I want for our home.

Who wouldn’t fall in love with these Louis ghost chairs, designed by Philippe Starck for Kartell?

Surprisingly, I found this exact same chair being sold at Mandaue Foam for only P2,000:

You might wonder why only P2,000.  It’s on sale and is marked down by 50%.   I was all set in buying it but AJ stopped me hehe, because it’s a sample chair and has scratches already.

But if you happen to be looking for one as accent chair (a pretty throw pillow can easily distract the chair scratches), then go check Mandaue Foam (Quezon Avenue branch) and see if this ghost chair is still available.  We checked if there are other stock of this design available and were told that this is the last ghost chair they have.

Sigh.   Better luck next time for us.
